Take the top off the tank, and look at how it's all connected in there. You will see how to take it apart. If I can do it, so can you.
hi Margaret. If you have help, yes this can be done DIY. You can watch YouTube or print instructions. But the lowdown is this; drain, unbolt, and lift off straight up and lay the toilet on its side. Using a scraper you never want to use again, scrape off as much of the old wax ring from toilet and floor as possible. (this stuff is unbelievably sticky!) Avoid getting the old wax on your hands. If you do,use WD40 and a scrub brush to help remove it from your hands. Set new wax ring, lower toilet down being careful to line up bolts through the toilet and press down firmly! This is a DIY if you have extra hands.
