  • You may have to take the "u" part of the sink apart and clean it. Some times things just gets so clogged it just needs to be cleaned out.

If it is bathroom sink or tub/shower drain, you need to pull out the hair with one of those plastic wands with barbs made to remove the hair. Once the hair is out, try putting at least half a cup of baking soda in the drain, followed by about a cup of vinegar. Let it sit for a while and fizz. Rinse it all down with boiling water. If that doesn't work, check the elbow to make sure it isn't blocked. If it isn't you probably will need to snake the drain. If it is in the kitchen, check the elbow, if it is clear do the baking soda/vinegar/boiling water and see if it clears the drain. If it doesn't, you can try again, or snake the drain. Sometimes the clog is really far down the drain and you may need to get the drain rotorootered. We had a clog so far down that it almost left the house in the basement. I hope this helps you.

The clog may be further down the line. Might need to be snaked through. Remove the P trap under the sink and run it through the pipe. This is the one I got.

A plumber told me to use bleach. You use it straight. I do this at least once a month no more clogged drains.bi do this in my bathrooms as well.

I use baking soda with vinegar. Then I use a small handled plunger. If a bad clog: You should have a plug right outside the wall of your kitchen. This is called a clean out. I have a little crack in my pipe in the wall that does not leak but the ridge causes stuff to jam up in there. So every fall or winter, I have to go out there, unplug it. I run a long metal "snake" up there with long vinyl gloves on (it stinks badly but is just food). I use a kitty litter pan to catch it. I bury the gunk in the yard (natural fertilizer). And "BANG" my drain is good for another year. I have my "not-a-handyman" husband run water from the kitchen sink to flush every so often. Then if your washer is really close by and likely runs thru that same line, run on rinse for a good flushing.

The use of a snake is the best & fastest way to un clog it. It cleaned mine out.

Baking soda and vinegar once per week and you will never have the problem again..

Bleach is really bad for pvc pipes..

Pour one cup of baking soda down the drain, (make sure it all goes in each drain you are treating), then pour in on cup of white vinegar. Let this sit for at least 15 minutes. Meanwhile get that teapot going and boil lots of water. After the 15 minute wait is over, pour the boiling water down the drain. It cleans it out very well.

Start with the baking soda and vinegar, if that works you are fine. If not, then use the snake. Last resort if all else fails, call the plumber.

Agreed that the baking soda/vinegar is great for basic soap scum, hair, disposal debris, etc. If this doesn't work I agree that the long handled thingie with the barbs works great!

If the zip thing, vinegar/soda, etc. doesn't work try a snake but likely you'll need a plumber if removing the traps also doesn't work.

Pour Baking soda and then vinegar in the drain, wait 20-30 minutes then use very hot water. If the drain is still clogged, it's time to use a sewer snake which can reach how ever long a one you purchase is. Sewer snakes are handy to have and can be purchased at any home improvement store.
