If it's a pipe, faucet or drain problem, call a plumber. If the grout is cracked or a tile is broken, call a tile repair person.
FYI if you know a good handyman, call him first. Plumbers often charge upwards of $100 just to step in the door.
Here we have a network of retired handymen. Some are plumbers, carpenters etc. They don't charge much, and they give you a quote before doing the work. I had a plumber charge me over $100 to tell me my sump pump pipe was frozen, which I told him on the phone. He told me he couldn't do anything about it, because there was a risk of melting my vinyl siding.
Where is it leaking? if its the shower pan, or the faucets/mixer, call the plumber
If the grout is coming out and leaking, call a tile man
A plumber if tap or showerhead if it is around top of tub reseal the grout, if it is a problem with the shower wall call an expert tile company
FIRST, MAKE SURE THE SPRAYER OR SHOWER NOZZLE ARE NOT BLOCKED BY A BUILD UP OF LIME. I SEE SOMEONE TIES A PLASTIC BAG CONTAINING VINEGAR OVER THE SHOWER HEAD. BLOCKAGES RESTRICT WATER FLOW AND INCREASE PRESSURE [ AFTER THE TAP ] IN SHOWERS.
COMMON LEAKS ARE AT THE USUALLY CHROME 1/2 INCH PIPE THE SHOWER HEAD OR HAND HELD SPRAYER. BE VERY CAREFUL, USING A THICK CLOTH TO CUSHION THE TEETH OF PLIERS IF YOU USE THEM. FOR THE FLEX HOSE CONNECTIONS IT IS USUALLY A RUBBER 'O' RING OR RUBBER WASHER THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. SIMILAR WASHERS ETC. MAY BE FOUND IN DOLLAR STORE KITCHEN SINK SWIVEL SPRAYERS. ALSO JUST TRY TURNING THEM OVER AND REUSE THEM. USE TEFLON TAPE ON METAL THREADS TO CONNECT TO TO METAL.
IF THE LEAK IS AT THE METAL PIPE, OUT IN THE SHOWER, AWAY FROM THE WALL, TEFLON TAPE ON THE THREADS MAY BE THE CURE FOR A LEAK.
IF THE LEAK IS BEHIND THE WALL YOU MIGHT WANT TO ASK FOR HELP.
IF YOU INSIST ON DOING REPAIRS YOURSELF, THE CHROME TUBE USUALLY UNSCREWS AND TEFLON TAPE CAN BE USED ON THE THREADS BEFORE
RECONNECTING IT BACK THROUGH THE WALL INTO THE UNSEEN FITTING.
I consider your answer is clear and simple. Good job Jim Canada...and by the way I am very thankful with Canada! Your country received my tweens when they were close to 18 years old and the law in US is that they loose my coverage as resident because they were born abroad... Hope this will not create a million of angry reactions from blind nationalists.
I think you should contact with the plumber. Now plumbing services are inexpensive. The problem may be more than just the shower. It could be a lot more serious than that. Starting from problems with the hose, ending with pipes. I'm telling you this as someone who went to College in Santa Clarita. You can read about this collage at howtobecomeaplumber.org. Just there may be disastrous consequences. Your pipes may start to rust. And you'll have to change the entire sewer system. And it is very serious.
