Question about RV black water valve

HI ITS SO COLD OUT AROUND 9 OUTSIDE. NOW HERES MY QUESTION....WE CANT PULL THE HANDLE TO DRAIN THE BLACK WATER. ITS EITHER FROZEN OR HAS ALOT OF WATER IN IT. AS IT ALWAYS TAKES A BIT TO GET IT OPEN WHEN THERES ALOT IN IT/ WE THNK ITS JUST FROZEN DUE TO THE COLD TEMPS. HELP HELP PLEASE. GIGI

If it's frozen, be patient, it'll defrost. You can buy heat tape to put around the pipe for the future. Leave it on. Some have thermostats on them that go on near freezing to warm the pipe. I use them on my well pipes. -

If you drive the vehicle it may open...can you safely use a hair dryer to thaw it...or wait until it warms up... -

The electric heat tape would be a good solution... if you are hooked up... Your could also try using a hair dryer or hot water... not boiling -

You can try dumping a whole bottle of original liquid Dawn detergent in the holding tank and let it sit for a while. You would be amazed at how much crud that Dawn breaks up. It could also act as a lubricant if it reaches the valve.
