How do I stiffen an old canvas duffel bag?

can i paint a heavy canvas bag with resin to make it stand up. Will resin discolour the canvas?have old army bag that i would like to keep any ideas would be welcome. thanks N B from NZ

I would to use liquid starch instead of resin.

Wash the bag on the machine and let it sit dry it should stiffen up
