2X6 stud in front of two window kitchen frame. Was used to attach shutters. Stands alone and can come out , but screws probably put in with electric drill and now I'm afraid to keep trying with screwdriver and stripping screw head. Can't budge them anyway.

  • If you don't have a corded or cordless drill, maybe a friend can loan you one or you can rent them inexpensively from a home improvement store.

I agree with Becky, try to borrow one. But, it's also possible the wood or screw it self could be stripped. Can you get a sawzall between the siding and the stud?

If you do strip the screw head there is a nifty little gadget called an "Easy Out". It drills into the stripped screw and grips it so you can back it out.

Borrow an electric drill. Push hard on the screw and backout slowly. Go to fast and you can strip the head. Another option is to dig around the screw so you can grip with a pair of pliers or visegrip pliers and back it out.

Try putting a thick rubber band over the screw head, the kind the post office uses or they put around broccoli. It will help you grip and prevent stripping. The "easy out" is a good recovery as Kc mentioned. Definitely see if you can borrow a drill. If you are going to do much around the house, you may want to invest in buying one. You can pick up one with a cord for a good deal. Check out harbor freight.
