Cover the windshield with a heavy blanket or purchase covers that are made for that purpose
De-icer comes in spray cans, and you definitely need an ice scraper for emergencies. Rained works well for frost, sleet and wet snow. A harder freeze or deeper ice may require something more heavy duty. You are very smart to plan ahead. Bad visibility is an accident waiting to happen. 😇💞
There are sprays out there, I know at Walmart, that prevents regular frost. Nothing short of garaging you car or covering the windows will prevent ice from forming on the windows. Sorry!
Windex sprayed on frost or ice-covered windows helps to melt the buildup and can be scraped easier. Windex also works when sprayed in a frozen lock. Just remember to not keep Windex in a locked vehicle, if lock freezes, you are out of luck.

Put glycerine (available at the drugstore) in a spray bottle and mist it on your windows.
