How do I trim down an outside door threshold ?

We purchased a storm door and thought we had measured accurately. Of course we were off by 1/4 inch so the door doesn’t fit. If we could trim off the threshold it would work but my husband isn’t the handiest. I’d like to know which tools we would need and detailed instructions.

You probably installed the storm door wrong. There should have been a spacer on the door that sat on the threshold to give you a space. After installation there are a couple of screws on the bottom door sweep that can be loosened to adjust the bottom.

Trim the bottom edge of the of the door, not the threshold. If it’s a hollow core door, there is still a solid wood piece in the bottom..and sides. the metal threshold has a rubber gasket in it that should meet the bottom of the door. The gaskets are replaceable. If you do need to cut the metal threshold to fit use a jig saw with a metal cutting blade.
You trim the door.
If it’s wood you could shave it down till it fits or change the thresholds to a thinner one you need a plain Home Depot
