Is there an easy way to replace sliding closet doors with bi-folds?

I really hate to have to keep sliding both doors to see whats in the closet when bi-fold doors could open up the whole thing at once. I would only attempt this if I could use the existing tracks or something simple.

I just did mine. Just pop out the sliding doors and get 2 bifolds from Lowe's. The track you'll need is in the package. The only real work was removing the outer trim and replacing it with some boards I had stained to match some other woodwork. No need to paint the bifolds, but you do need to buy some knobs.

Bifold doors come with all the hard wear to hang them & it's easy to put up the track. Just measure door opening & go to home depot or any place that sells them tell them your opening size & they will tell you what size to get & how many.Good luck.

easy done, screw driver and tape measure, measure opening, buy doors , finish, hang, its not a hard job, I am a senior woman. a drill makes it faster and easier.

I redid my bathroom in barnwood and granite. Both were dark so I replaced the old brown doors with white. I turned the front door from Grandma's old house sideways, replaced the glass with a mirror, sanded it down and added bright yellow accessories. I love it!

  • Yes, we have done this a couple of times. The only problem we ran into was finding bifold doors that fit the opening. Once we had to add wood to the sides of the closet opening so they would fit.

Why bi-fold doors? They often come off the tracks and are a pain in the neck to keep putting back on the tracks.

Pg, you are right....took my bi-fold doors off that were in the laundry room.....when open, couldn't open the basement door and always had to shut them when going down the hall or into the basement. I like my sliding closet doors in the bedroom a lot.
