How to Replace door with window?

We added a new door and deck to the back. No longer use the side door. The outside is stucco. The inside is plaster. Would rather have a large window in it's place. Any easy ideas would help.

Preparing the area for placing the window in is straight-forward carpentry. Basically all you do is tear out all framing from around the door until you are down to the studs. You then build a sill for the window to rest on. Putting the actual window in is pretty simple, BUT you need to make sure you are doing that part of the job properly. Repairing the outside and inside walls, and making sure you have correct weather proofing will be more difficult. Unless you know how to replace flashing, use proper weatherproofing, insulation etc., and know how to repair stucco and plaster I would leave that job up to a professional because any of these not done properly are going to lead to problems down the line. I know because we bought a house (almost new) and some of these were not done properly. I spent a lot of time and money repairing what the builder didn't do right.

You may also need a permit to do this job and a pro would do this for you if they install it and do it right. Check with a few window companies and get estimates for what you want put in. Get quality, not just the cheapest you can find.

The door should be totally removed and reframed to fit the window you are using. Allow space around the window frame for insulation. You may have to hire a carpenter to do the work.
