How you can improve the metal spiral stairs?
I have metal spiral stairs to the loft at my house, currently covered by carpet, but after heavy use, the carpet looks really bad. Would like to know how to rip up carpet and if anybody has tried to put vinyl or wood to cover the step platforms? Want to try something more than tearing the carpet down and putting paint! Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Draha,
You can definitely put wood to cover the step, as in this picture.
pull up carpet and paint
Nope did it ourselves and they don't squeak either! hahaha, which is amazing since our old ranches floors are anything but level and if even 2 glasses are touching they rattle as you're walking past. Actually, the stairs rattled or sounded metal-ly when we used them, even with carpet but now they're perfect!
Regarding squeaks.... Glue and screw = no squeaks. Use construction adhesive and drywall screws to attach the treads. They will never squeak
