Replacing a too steep staircase question

There really isn't enough space in my back hallway for stairs to the second floor master bedroom and bath can the staircase be redesigned to fit or will a more serious remodel be necessary

Yes, the stairs can be redesigned and yes it is a serious remodel. You should consult with a remodeling contractor who can look at your house and situation and recommend solutions. -

It's tough to say without a picture, but the first thing that come to my mind is a spiral staircase. You could consult a professional contractor. -
