In North Carolina can these banana plants be left out over winter? Sometimes the weather drops below 30 but usually returns to decent temps during the day. Would that damage the plant?
How about growing these plants on the terrace in the Bronx?
I get bright sun from sunup to about 1 and then just bright light.
I don't know what zone 9-11 is?
I know I would have to bring them in during the fall/winter but is New York warm enough to handle banana trees? I've never seen anybody growing them or even seen them sold in nurseries.

I live in zone 9b. ( Fl.) and do grow banana trees. They need tons of potassium and sunshine. I had bananas developing and then came along a cold snap. Overnight temps in the 40;s.....the end of the fruit.....
I find that if you throw the banana peel at the bottom of the plant it starts to take off growing. Thank you for the very informative article concerning bananas. They are beautiful when blooming and bananas grow upside down. I have had them to freeze but, they still come back. Bananas are very fun to grow!
