    NO. You need a substrate thinset will adhere to. Now a days cement board is used. Tile mastic will work on wood. Even roughening the marble surface thinset will fail. Also consider the increased height.

    William is right. Can you tell us why you need to cover up the marble tile. Damage? Bad color? Dirty?

    Tile can be regrouted and professionally cleaned and polished if youre not up to it.

    I found ceramic tile I like. Pls marble is black and quite old and faded. Just verifying that I do need to remove this old tile before laying new ceramic. The labor is unite expensive as you know.
