Shellie: this isn't the answer you're looking for --- but this is such a treasure --- it would be a shame to destroy it! (Somebody must be looking for a mid-century modern dollhouse... take that $ and buy a bookshelf)

I would just take out the furniture. The wall design would just be a one of a kind back ground. Lay books flat where height is an issue. Where it looks like a small room with out a roof, if books will not fit, add an item like glasses, etc.. Leave the doors for interest, and store what you can there. If you put it in a corner, you can even use the second story roof for books. If you are raising it up, screw it to the top of a stand or a small book case. Depending on where you put it, it will be a conversation starter. Have fun.

I am wondering what would be the reason why you would want to try to turn it into a bookshelf? With all the delightful furniture and accessories, donating it would bring joy to children whose families are not privileged enough to afford to purchase one.

Believe it or not I think the dollhouse is worth more for you to sell on Ebay or privately than as a bookshelf. If not there are a lot of orphan dressers that would even work better sans drawers-or utilize the drawers as open shelves for books, too.

Oh no!!! What a beautiful treasure. I'm not certain how old that is, but you can Google it and get a rough estimateas to it's worth. And get plenty of good ideas from Hometalk or U-Tube?? What other treasures do you have in your home?? I use to be a dealer and you may have a gold mine in old treasures. The old adage, one man's trash is another man's treasure.!! It's really true.

Hi Shellie, hope this helps you out, you will need ensure the shelves in it will hold weight, so reinforce them with wood both vertically and horizontally.
