Our 8 cats are fine with high-sided Rubbermaid containers for litter boxes. I haven't found a commercial litter box to buy that is big enough for our Maine coon cat male. This was recommended by a vet at the regional vet school. You can cut one of the short sides down a little or put steps on the outside for older cats. We do use a regular box for the occasional kitten.

you get a deep rubber made tub, find a saw blade. on the lid is where the hole is for entry/exit, the litter pan is down below.
They work great as a cover for a litter box. Just cut an opening at one end, and put it over the litter box
Most cats wouldn't use a deep container of litter. It's better to use litter boxes that you can buy.
Just as a suggestion buy litter pan liners. They make cleaning the box a breeze.
