when you're getting the new mirror cut for your cabinet (I'm betting it was a break/crack that prompted this question) ask the glasscutter if they could trim down the old mirror into a usable piece. I had mine recut and now use it every year as the ice in my vintage winter skating pond scene. But you could also then frame it with molding and hang it as an accent mirror.

So for the first option you will need a few tools, such as a miter saw and Kreg Jig would be great! You would just pick the style of board you want to make your frame out of, measure the mirror and cut the boards to size, I would use a kreg jig to join the corners and then I would probably just glue it to the mirror!
For the second option you will need a glass scoring tool! You will just measure the frame you have, and mark your glass! Using a straight edge of some kind, it can be a board, metal ruler...whatever you can find laying around, you will score the glass using the straight edge to keep your score line straight...and then you snap it along your score line! Then fit it into your frame!
Now for other ideas you could re-purpose that mirror into, you could frame it and use the mercury glass technique to make it a decor piece somewhere else in your home. You could cut it down into two smaller mirrors, frame them, and put the two of them back up in your bathroom, I love this trend in bathrooms right now! I even love the idea of using in a girl's room and making her a ballet bar...makes me want a daughter! Lol!

Do you have a hall where you can hang it and maybe decorate the edges with wood or objects like sea shells, or flat glass marbles? Or can you use it on the back of a door somewhere in a bedroom? Or do you have a mantle to hang it above the mantle? Just some ideas, hope this helps
