As many people think pallets are free for the most part they are not. Home Improvement stores have to pay deposits on them so please do not take that advice. Sometimes warehouses often leave them in there yard but of course you must make sure they are yours to take. Otherwise you will have to research your local area for those that just want to get rid of them or ads in the paper.

It never hurts to ask at a store as many may be willing to part with them. Although some larger stores may not be willingly give them up, smaller stores may be willing to.

In the industrial area in the city some of the manafactures put the pallets out side there fences with a FREE sign . You need to go early in the A.M. or later in the evenings. Best thing to do is drive around and if you see some then ask . Pallets are getting harder to come by as more people are using them. You can also put an add on line in your area asking if any body has any free or cheap. Good luck.

I worked as a Maintenance Technician for a Nursing Home for ten years. Pallets from deliveries were piling up and Housekeeping would break them down and throw them in the dumpster. Then we were approached by some people if they could have our pallets. We said SURE. Eventually they were getting pallets from our other nine facilities also. A lot of business get deliveries on pallets and they don't want them. I see a lot of pallets thrown out by businesses by dumpsters on garbage day in mini malls. There for the taking. All for free! Hit the small businesses Find out when garbage day is.

FREE pallets are also usually available at local recycling centers. Lots of small businesses can't store them and bring them to recycling centers knowing many people are using them for projects. Good luck!

Janet, when I go around the local Maxi Malls, I see pallets leaning against dumpsters all the time. This means they are free for the talking as they are trash. If they are neatly piled up the that means don't touch. Why undermine other peoples comments when we know otherwise.
