Both sides of door has about a inch of space. I want to put up a curtain on both sides. From the inside. Which is the other side of this door. I cannot figure how to attach and make it look right. The curtains are to decorate and to cover the sides only. The handle is on one side. The curtain is hanging from an inside bar and you have to attach the curtain to the side Frame of the door frame. I hope I made it clear. thank you so much for any advice I can get. Been working just on the curtain part for over a month. UUUUGGGG!

I wonder if a wide piece of wooden trim/molding added to the sides of the door would add the privacy you're looking for. Those could be painted in a contrasting color if you wanted a decorative element or paint the same color to make them blend.

I understand what you're talking about. I always thought about privacy when I see the makeover shows do this on the bathroom. I'm not sure if curtains will work because of the door movement. Obviously you have been trying for some time now. What about some type of weather stripping either on the door or the frame.

  • Ah, and now the plight of the "barn door" begins! This is an easy fix. Either get a tension rod that fits the opening of the barn door and slip a curtain(s) ove the tension rod or mount a curtain rod over the doorway portion on the inside of the bathroom and hang from there.

I would like to be able to try to address your question, but I am not sure what you mean by your present door not providing enough privacy. If you posted a picture of it, and the adjoining walls, then maybe more Hometalkers would be able to give you more specific answers.

I'd try a rubber strip tacked on one door to bridge the gap.

Using the weather stripping that seals the sides of a garage door could probably work, It is a flexible rubber and comes in various sizes and colors.

don't think curtain will work recommend the weather stripping for each side and thin strip of molding that you can glue on each side of the doors then paint

Hello Cg; I would use a tension rod. I believe that will be the best fix for your barn door, and it will work the way that you wish.

I hope that this helps you!! Take Care!

I agree with all the previous comments that any kind of curtain would just be a nuisance when opening and closing the door. The fabric will get in the way, get caught, have to be constantly pushed away, and will soon look dirty, from touching it all the time. Plus, you have the added frustration of additonal mounting hardware.

I would say that if you have been fighting with it already for a month, abandon it.

My question is what exactly is insufficient with the privacy, is it noise, is it light? From looking at the picture you have posted, I am wondering if the door is first of all wide enough to not only cover the doorway opening, but to also over-ride the width on both sides?

Put a pc of wood on each side of door to form a L shape & leave about 1/8 of inch from wall. Glue on edge of door. Put chair leg patches on edge so it won't scratch wall. Or you can do it on door frame. Good luck
