there is film you can buy at Lowes or Home Depot. ...also you may consider black-out curtains.

Hello. You can purchase film for windows that you apply directly on to the glass. It comes in all different designs. I would check at your local home improvement stores.
room darkening shades sold at your local hardware store. Retractable, easy to use, inexpensive.
Some people use sheets of bubble wrap, moisten the window with water and apply the cut bubble wrap to the window, Over time you may have some of the wrap come loose, just re wet and stick it back on. This works for hot as well as cold insulation. The size of the bubble does not matter.

We live in AZ and put Shade Screens on all of our windows.... they help keep the sun off of the window glass and have been tremendous with helping to keep the heat out of the house... they look like a darker window screens... since our living room faces directly west... we put roller shade screens on interior of the windows and sheer curtains over that... we put them down in the afternoons and open them once the sun goes down... the combination is very effective controlling the light and the heat.
Yes: Try taping tissue paper. It looks like stained glass!
