Granted I'm in Orlando and not Miami, but I certainly see more people remodeling their kitchens over their dining rooms around here. That makes me also wonder where they got their info from.

That is interesting. I still have trouble understanding why so many people feel a "dining room" is so important. Personally I feel the formal dining room and the formal living room are functionally useless. Is that a guy thing?

The Formal Dining and Living will soon be gone most home prefer having this space as one big space with the Kitchen as a focal point.

I agree personally with you guys formal is out for me at least, i hardly use my dining room maybe 3 times a year and one is for holding my tropicals throughout the winter but surprisingly many do require it as a have to have when purchasing a home

I perfer large, wide open space around the kitchen which is used often. A formal dining room seems like a waste of good space since it is seldom used.

I'm with Kevin on this. Eating great food and enjoying great company should be an informal affair. I sometimes stand up and reach across the table for somthing rather than ask it to be passed. Don't do it in restaurants though :) Maybe I'm a neandrathal. But if any "Hometalkers ever come to my house for a meal, I want you to feel at home. Of course farting at the table is still forbidden HaHa (Unless its just guys HaHaHa)

I guess a lot of this has to do with how one was raised ( and yes Harold farting at the table is included here) when I was growing up our home had an "eat in kitchen" where an area was located near the Kitchen but not entirely a separate room. This "informal" dining is all I have every had in life...my current home has a "great room" where the dining table in also located in the "living room" space which is just off of the kitchen. By comparison my brothers home is a 1920's vintage bungalow, which has a separate formal dining space. When visiting there any meal other than a quick snack for 2 ( which is eaten at the kitchen island that has a couple stools) is eaten in the "formal" space. Given that there is no other space that can seat more than a couple people.

I like the family room, nice kitchen and Breakfast area, spacious master bedroom, and of course landscaping. The yard must be beautiful, inspire, serene, have room to play, and a rainbow of colors.
