How do you remove scratches on flatware?

The flatware that I use everyday have a lot of scratches, especially on the tines of the forks. Is there any way to remove or reduce these scratches other than buying a new set of flatware?

I collect a huge amount of silverplate and we also use stainless steel. I don't remember any scratches. Maybe the metal is too thin?

  Thank you Emily. The flatware is very old. And the metal does look somewhat thin. I am not sure what I am going to do. I guess I had a unreal expectation of how long the flatware would last. I'm pretty sure that it is about twenty years old. Thank you again for responding.

  Thank you Amy for responding to my question. I went to the link that you listed and tried using the Olive Oil and soft cloth to remove the scratches. Then I used warm water with a little bit of Dawn to wash, and then buffed dry. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. But as I told Emily, I think the flatware is about 20 years old and that I have unreal expectations of long it should last. When my birthday comes, much later in the year, I will ask for new flatware. I want a service for eight. Thank you for trying to help me.
