How to get rid of pet odor in your car's carpet?
-
Lagree Wyndham on Feb 02, 2016I have found that vinegar is good at removing smoke smell from automobiles. I bought a used car once, previous owner was a smoker. I cleaned all surfaces with vinegar and water, except the upholstery, i did not have a carpet cleaner. What I did was place a bowl of vinegar in car a let it sit in sun a couple of days with windows rolled up. It neutralized the smell. It smelt like vinegar for a few days, but eventually faded away. I would suggest if you have a carpet/upholstery cleaner to add vinegar to it. White Vinegar.Helpful Reply

Missis on Feb 02, 2016www.odormedic.com. The best odor remover ever!!!! I discovered this after buying a house where old, sick cats lived. Right after closing, we put on our work clothes and started removing carpet so that we could treat the slab. Odor Medic healed our stinky house!Helpful Reply

MN Mom on Feb 02, 2016Vacuum the entire vehicle and wipe down all the hard surfaces with Armour All car wipes. Then I would use a heavy dose of the strongest Febreeze odor eliminator spray. There are little plastic deodorant balls available in the sporting goods section of stores that you throw in gym bags...toss a couple of those in the vehicle as well. If they worked for my sons hockey bag, they should work for you!Helpful Reply

Tina Farmer on Feb 02, 2016I agree that baking soda helps. The last car we bought smelled like cigarette smoke. My husband found out that there are actually filters that can be changed out behind the air vents. Changing those out helped a lot! You can also try a product called Nok-Out it should remove the smells.Helpful Reply

KatAych on Feb 02, 2016Simple - vinegar and water. Yes, it will smell like vinegar at first, but the smell dissipates as it dries. (1 part vinegar to 6 parts water). If you're talking about pet urine, most of that smell is due to ammonia, which is highly alkaline. Vinegar is acidic, so helps to neutralize the scent.Helpful Reply

Beth McDrummond Holley on Feb 03, 2016Rent an Ozone machine and let it go for 30 minutes or so. We own a taxi business and this is how we get rid of all kinds of horrible odors in our cars! It really does work. The only thing is, don't let it go too long as then you have the ozone smell to contend with!Helpful Reply

CK on Feb 03, 2016White vinegar in hot water. Spray it on liberally. Let dry. Remove floor mats if possible and do them outside and let air dry in sunshine. Commercial pet cleaners do work (I know...we've got 3 dogs) but the vinegar is much less expensive especially if you want to do the entire inside of your car. ;-)Helpful Reply

Lus2122838 on Feb 03, 2016Clean it then sponge on listerene. It will smell like mouthwash for a few days. If You smell it again up again repeat and it should be gone. It has to go as deep as the urine did. I bred cats for a few years and this is the joy thing that worked.Helpful Reply

861650 on Feb 03, 2016What great ideas and I'm sure going to use them. Someone mentioned the air ducts where the smell of smoke was apparent. She used white vinegar and water in a spray bottle and squirted it in the ducts. Let dry and repeat. Use one part vinegar and three parts water...Around the house I cheat a little and use just a bit more vinegar.Helpful Reply

Cindi on Feb 04, 2016I use Nature's Miracle for everything Pet Related, to get out odors. My old cat got scared and peed on my bed once, cat pee is the worse, so I got Nature's Miracle for cats and poured it full strength, you have to wait a few days, and let it dry and do it's thing, but afterward I couldn't smell a thing, even if I put my face right against the mattress. I have dogs and cats, so always have a supply on hand, just in case. If it can do that, I'm sure it will take out any old pet smells.Helpful Reply

Stephanie on Feb 05, 2016I'm going to agree with the Nature's Miracle recommendation. That or use some OdoBan. If Thomson Chemical is still open, they probably have some good suggestions too. It's been so long since I have been "home". :) Good luck!Helpful Reply
