Is there a critter in my chimney

HandyANDY - Handyman & All Repairs, LLC on Feb 24, 2012Possible....why do you ask? If you have holes in your siding, woodpeckers love to get in and next there. We repair siding on chimneys at least once or twice a week all over metro AtlantaHelpful Reply

Bernice H on Feb 24, 2012My granddaughter had squirrels in her roof area, running rampant. This was supposed to be approved off base military housing, hundreds of units, but squirrels were never taken care of! She could smell the feces and urine in her apt, and especially the pitter patter of little feet made her uptight! They finally moved on base.Helpful Reply

HandyANDY - Handyman & All Repairs, LLC on Feb 24, 2012We get alot of rats in metro Atlanta....they're a huge problem actually. Squirrels we can usually screen out but rats can get into any tiny crevice...amazing actually.Helpful Reply

Lori on Feb 24, 2012We were awakened in the middle of the night with a scratching/pecking noise in the wall/ceiling above our bed. When I walked downstairs, I realized the noise was probably coming from the top of the chimney. We have a wooded lot and have had to repair several woodpecker holes in the stucco. (it's the small woodpeckers that do it)Helpful Reply

Peace Painting Co., Inc. on Feb 24, 2012I took this pic last summer. The stucco is just too tempting. Painting your stucco with two coats of elastomeric paint acts like a rubber glove and goes a long way to protect the stucco on several levels. CPeaceHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 24, 2012This time of year is when mice tend to become active in attic areas. Late night noise tends to lend itself to those types of critters. You will not hear any noise out of chimney if they were in there unless they were all the way down to the damper area. Put some glue boards and traps in attic and check them every few days to see what you may catch. If the glue traps are missing from where you placed them, you have squirrels or larger animal and then need the assistance of a pest control person.Helpful Reply

HandyANDY - Handyman & All Repairs, LLC on Feb 28, 2012Matt - I think that does work in certain parts of the country. Woodpeckers will habitually return to the very same spot time and time again...especially on those stucco chimneys. They love LP sided chimneys as well....reminds them of a big dead tree I think. We end up fixing on every week or two.Helpful Reply

Peace Painting Co., Inc. on Mar 13, 2012A customer handed this Holographic Scarecrow Ribbon to me to hang from his stucco chimney to keep the woodpecker from coming back and drilling more holes. The folks at a bird supply store said it's the only thing that works. CPHelpful Reply
