When painting furniture or architectural details (like this mantel), try to look for the "details within the details". Adding more than just one color or one technique is a way to make it more interesting and show off the craftsmanship within the piece.
This great room may not be very exciting, but the addition of a few interesting finishes makes this mantel the focal point of the room. Paint is still the most cost effective way to make an impact in a space. What do you think?
