Details within the details.

When painting furniture or architectural details (like this mantel), try to look for the "details within the details". Adding more than just one color or one technique is a way to make it more interesting and show off the craftsmanship within the piece.
This great room may not be very exciting, but the addition of a few interesting finishes makes this mantel the focal point of the room. Paint is still the most cost effective way to make an impact in a space. What do you think?
AFTER. . . . The difference color makes
BEFORE. . . a closer look
AFTER. . . using different species and tones of wood to blend with other real wood in the space.
BEFORE . . . you barely see the egg and dart trim.
AFTER. . . just a hint of bronze and red to go with the picture.
