Potted Vegies and Herbs. What is best to use to keep bugs away?

I have just planted a Vegie and Basil. What do I use to keep bugs off of them? I heard a little bit of dawn and water mixed and spray. Is this correct? Also any tips on the Basil mine looked terrible the next day. Holding up but I live in Las Vegas and it is HOT...

Hi Nanci! Potted plants need to be watered more than in ground due to the evaporation rate. However overwatering will kill them as well, so just be sure to keep it moist to the touch, not soggy. What is more concerning is the pest infestation. What kind of bugs are they, where are they located? Check under the leaves and on the stems, then tell us what you see. We'll be able to help more when we know that. xo

How big is your container that you have the basil in? Sometimes they need to acclimate if they have been inside or even in a greenhouse. They will perform poorly if you stick them in the full hot sun all at once. Do you have the vegi and the basil in one pot? What vegi do are you growing? I am with @Sia@South 47th , can you tell us a bit more about the bugs you are encountering?
