I would mount it on a bedroom wall. You can also lightly sand it - to remove the gloss, prime and paint it. Would look great painted in a girl's room.

How would you hang a piece like this? I have the same one but don't know how to hang it?

you could decorate with it...see pic (not mine)...could even paint mirror with chalkboard paint!
  • I can picture it painted with light color (perhaps off white) and distressed but just a little bit to highlight its nice lines, then strip lights added inside the upper front molding, the mirror replaced with a sheet metal painted with chalkboard paint (so you can use it as a chalkboard or as a memo board with magnets) and hung on a wall in a mud room/laundry room or even in the main entry. I can also picture it exactly the same but without the chalkboard this time (keep the mirror I mean) hanging above the sink in a bathroom. It is a beautiful piece and I am sure you'll have fun working on it. Good luck! -Handan

I like all your ideas. I would add a table underneath in the entryway. Also add shelves and hang in the kitchen either blank wall or above a counter

I think this would look pretty painted a light color and used as a headboard for a twin bed. You could replace the mirror with a fabric padded insert that could be used as a memo board. The little shelves would be great spots for trinkets if you chose to use it in a child's room!

It would make a great small bathroom mirror, love the other ideas too.

@NancyMaria - it is a little large for my bathroom because it is 48" wide and 42" high. thanks for your input

Remove the mirror. Take the small shelves off and replace them with two (or three) long shelves that go across it. (I'm trying to find a pic of one...I saw it just the other day and was wanting to try it.)

Remove the mirror and add chicken wire or something you can hang things from. Paint it and use it in the kitchen (on the wall?) Could use it as a notice board or to hang mugs from or kitchen utensils and the little shelves along the edges to put things like pretty, colourful pickles in jars or preserved lemons. Definitely feel a kitchen vibe from this piece!

Before any ideas are suggested the question is are you going to keep the mirror? Many make decisions based on what they think without knowing the whole idea of what you have in mind.

Years ago a neighbors friend took one of these home from a yard sale. . She sanded then painted it and put it in her back garden. I don't recall if she left the mirror on it, but garden mirrors seem to be popular these days.

my father in law has an awesome shed full of improptu sorts of things...{this} turned to {that} and it all has tons of character...he has an almost identical mirror hanging out there and has small bottles of screws and such on the shelves...don't know why I love it so much it's an odd place for a mirror...but it's great just being exactly what it is!

Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions. I have decided to go with either of these options. I am moving soon and once settled I will see where it works best.

Turn the top into a hall stand coat rack. You could remove the shelves and add coat hooks and put a bench with a shoe rack underneath.

I used one under a flat screen tv. Gonna put a fireplace insert in it and will still be able to see the pretty mirror with its etched roses.

I have that exact piece and the top has been sitting in the basement for years. I need to do something with it or get rid of it. If anyone has pictures, please send them.

    Hello,

Yes Sandy, I would use it in my hall fitted on the wall or on top of a slim table.

Take the top of shelving part off it really dates the piece and either put a free standing mirror over the dresser or some art. This would do a lot of updating the bedroom. I had one very similar and removed the mirror above and am now going to repaint the hardware to help freshen the look but removing the mirror alone was a huge improvement.

Hi Sandy, I would use it as a mirror on a dresser or even as a headboard on a twin or double bed.

Cindy Mathis, use a French cleat to hang it.
