Insulated windows have turned white and con't see through them

KMS Woodworks on Apr 25, 2012Some outfits "claim" that this can be fixed on site...but I have yet to see it. I have replaced these in direct set styles and also in some sliders. In the case of regular windows replacement is typically the most cost effective.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Apr 25, 2012Depending upon the age of the windows, check with the condo assocation. There may be warranties on these windows even if they are older. Also they may have a low cost company that has done these brands in your development in the past. What has happened is the seal between the glass has been compromised and moisture has become trapped between the panes causing the white out condition. This also may be covered by home owners insurance. So you may want to look into that.Helpful Reply

Pam on Apr 25, 2012Thank you both for your replies. The condo were completed in 1987 and I have been on the Board of Directors for 10 years and can state there is no warranty covering this problem. Also the windows are not a size readily found. They are 32" W by 72" H. Since I have been laid off for 5 months I was hoping for a less expensive way to repair of change. I will get the cost for replacing the entire windows. Unfortunately I have 4 like that. Many other residents have the same problem because of the age of the windows. Thought I would ask you experts for suggestions. One owner had a solid single pane put in but with the heat here in Louisiana, I want the insulation benefit. Thank you again for your prompt reply.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Apr 25, 2012There is not that much more insulating quality from a single to double pane as the manufactures want you to think. Double glass panes are not that expensive if the glass can be removed. Perhaps you can get a special deal if you get others to do their glass at the same time?Helpful Reply

Pam on Apr 25, 2012Thanks for that info. I'll keep that in mind and ask around other owners. It's nearly impossible to get them to spend a dime on home improvements. They think once you buy a condo, you never have to do another thing. They don't realize a home is like a car. Maintenence is key to keeping our investment at it's best.Helpful Reply
