How to clean copper?

Question

Need a good tip to clean my copper.  When I first received my copper set, it told me to put it in boiling water.  That was no easy trick.  Would just regular copper cleaner work?

just one thing.KETCHUP. Yes, I did it. Cover your brass with ketchup,wait 20 min and wash it. let it dry.  I hope that can help you.

Ketchup will do the job but for a shine that lasts for weeks...look for Maas metal cleaner.  It works wonders on ALL metals not just copper.  Comes in a little tube like toothpaste.  Depending on what the item is, you can coat it after shining with clear nail polish (good for say jewellry items) or a spray shellac or finishing coat...for bigger things like planters etc..

First, I would follow manufacturers directions.  That being said, I have used all of the above remedies previously suggested.  Now it also depends upon whether or not your item is solid copper or copper coated or copper clad.  I would try in a small spot first.  Hopes this helps at least a bit.
