Cathie T on Jun 10, 2012I suggest using HAIR. It's free & it sure works well w/my hosta. It dosn't matter what kind ,you, dog, cat. try it. Someone also told me to use human urine. Am trying that now.Can let you know how sucessful I am. I like to be as organic as possible & believe me I have found a lot of things that don't cost $ & are not poison.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jun 10, 2012Good luck, Janis. You may have to switch things up so deer don't get used to one bad smell.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Jun 10, 2012The only thing you can do is MOVE! HA....we live just over a mile from 285...one of the busiest highways in the world...and the deer give me fits. Last year they ate the red and purple petunias, leaving only the white. My plantings looked AWFUL...but they do not touch my lilies? Don't know what to tell you.Helpful Reply

Jan C on Jun 11, 2012For rabbits and deer, I go to the nearest hair salon and ask for the garbage bag that has the swept up hair off the floor. I use plastic gloves and sprinkle it around my plants and it works and is free (just a little gross). I then store any hair not used in a zip lock storage baggie for future use and to keep the smell on it. I put down fresh after a rain. So far so good!Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jun 11, 2012If the deer are hungry they will eat anything in front of them. Putting down hair, urine and all the other tricks only works if it really does work for a very short time. You need to fence off the area with high fence, or simply shoot them, which of course is not always the best course of action.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jun 11, 2012It really depends on how bad your deer problem is. When I lived in New York I had only an occasional deer problem and scent-based products worked for me during the growing season. But I started screening my evergreens with burlap in the winter after deer ate both holly and juniper in a bad winter.Helpful Reply

Nancy Rhodes C on Jun 12, 2012I used to put peanut butter on the trees to draw the deer to my property. They are so pretty. Guess I was lucky they did not come. I have seen only a doe with her fawn just one time.Helpful Reply
