Looks like slugs have visited you. I use covers filled with beer. It draws them into the beer and they drown. You have to use it all season long to have it work.

That won't drown them. We used to use old tuna cans, pour beer into the can and set at various places around the garden. You can set the cans into the ground more, so they're not as much of an eyesore. Check them periodically, remove the dead slugs, refresh the beer and start over!

Can you do the same with snails?

We put some beer in some containers and placed them around our flower garden. One day while watering the plants all of a sudden we saw what we thought was a drunken squirrel walking toward us. Beer attracts more than just slugs apparently!

Slugs - yuck. Save some eggsshells - crush them and place around the bottom of the plant. Slugs don't like to move over sharp eddges and they will leave your plants alone!
