Putting a barn door in a mobile home

Question

I have a 1977 mobile home that I want to hang a sliding barn door? Does anyone know if this can be done??? Thanks

Only if you reinforce  with 2x4 or 2x6  (between the known framing location)  the front and back side of the wall where you are placing the door and use lag bolts through both those braces

Don't think that is going to work, doors are too heavy, probably tip the trailer over.      Go back to the thinking board, there must be something that would be better, really barn doors on a trailer, I don't think so.

Could you modify a sheet of T1-11 plywood to look like barn door material? It would be a whole lot lighter in weight which would be easier on the skimpy mobile home framing. IMHO

I love the idea of the barn doors on a trailer.  It depends on how large the trailer is too.  Codyrich's door looks very cool.  I think they are not hard to install.  Lowes and Home Depot have the hardware and the doors and may be able to give advice on installation.  Best of luck. : )

We have a 2003 Solitaire Doublewide and just replaced our swinging laundry room door (the one between the kitchen and laundry/mudroom) with hanging barn door hardware and a 15 light French door that we picked up at Habitat ReStore for $50.  I love the way it looks and it was relatively easy to hang.

Don't buy a heavy door, buy a hollow door and then stain it or do it with a wood panel and stain, I have seen it in mobile homes and it looks good, hollow doors are not heavy and so hanging it on the hardware works well, you can even put two together if they are hollow if you want a wider door to separate , if you open a wall to make the room larger then when you do the barn door you can still close it off if you want to, it works and looks good.

Fixing to move into 2019 manufactured home. And I will be taking off the existing master bath door and converting it into a slider, (simply because it opens into bedroom and will be in the way). I have been reading about this and I think I can make it happen Anyone have any comments that will help. As I am doing this myself. Thanks in advance.

Yes a barn door can be installed however you'll want to 'beef up' the area where the barn door hardware is attached so you have a very sturdy base for the door. You can buy the hardware online.
