Lowe's and Home Depot have a spray pain that looks like stone when it is applied. Spray the legs. Pad the seat with foam to make it more comfortable looking. Hot Glue will help stabilize the foam and cover it with leather or upholstery fabric. Polish the wood. Five dollar stool turns into $100 one of a kind.

The best part of the chair is the natural wood on the back.I would just enrich it with a nice oil or polish. The seat and leg frame need work. I would start by spray painting the leg frame a color you like from black to brilliant funky. Then consider the seat if it does not match your decor. But depending on how it is attached, may be more of a challenge to recover than you want to deal with for a $5 spare chair.

As Janet says. Depending on you color scheme, where it will be used, etc. You can paint the back, paint the seat (looks like plastic, use paint for plastic). Paint the legs. Leave the chrome foot ring. Its your taste, your colors, you vision.

I suppose you could take your favorite team colors and have something to share and sit on during the game. Extra seating perhaps. Or maybe use it as a stool at he table for a wee one.

I have this chair also! my grandmother had multiple schlerosis and couldn't stand for long periods so she sat in the chair to cook and wash her dishes... my daughter as a surprise had the chair refinished and seat reupholstered for me (added padding) most thoughtful gift I've ever gotten!!!!

Patriotic but don't paint the wood stain it red🌞

I would leave the back the way it is. Spray paint the legs and recover your seat. For something really inexpensive to cover the seat with, consider a colourful beret, knitted or fabric.

I think, it actually looks okay as it is, kind of looks mid century/ industrial, maybe if the metal is tarnished, a metallic copper spray and plush teal velvet seat would make the natural timber pop!

  • Connie Connie on Dec 05, 2016

I would keep the wooden back (very mid-century mod) and use a furniture polish on it. Then I would cover the seat in a cowhide look. Clean up the chrome legs or if in bad condition spray them a off white to match the cowhide color.

I was trying to picture a whimsical print for the seat, and I think you nailed it! Keep the wood back- that's the real signature part of the chair- just condition it and a coat of poly, then pad the seat and cover it in this fabric. It would be awesome! I may keep an eye out for a similar one!

This is adorable. It looks like a stool for an ice cream store, or an old fashioned kitchen that was meant for talking on the phone attached to the wall!! I would suggest that the back covered with black cushioned material, similar to bucket seats in a car. The seat would bring out the black with another cushion in white soft flannel material. If you decide to change it for a child's bedroom, you only need to remove the cushions.! Permanent changes can destroy the design. Hope this gives you another idea if you prefer to do something different. Good Luck!

I would keep the back as is and clean it up with wood cleaner and a conditioner.

The seat could be recovered with a leather piece of fabric. Or, a nice colored high

use type of fabric, perhaps vinyl coated.

I like it as is, I wouldn't paint the legs unless they are rusty. Maybe a light stencil of boomerangs on the seat

I would wouId recondition the back slates, fine wool the legs & foot rest (anywhere there is rust) & clear coat them. Be sure to wrap/tape where you don't want spray paint & re-upholstery the seat in a nice, bright print. Be sure to water-proof the fabric for protection. Enjoy!

I really like the back, with a little love that wood could really shine. That being said I would recover the seat with a bright retro looking fabric, and add more padding.

Paint slats white, make a skirt out of white cotton with a scalloped edge and attach to seat

Thanks!..........good luck in your search. It's fun hunting for anything vintage isn't it?

  • I would just clean it up and recover the seat with something that goes with your decor. If you want to use a non upholstery-weight fabric, you can do so by covering it with clear vinyl. If you have an upholstery supply company near you, you can often choose from a big variety of vinyls and even leathers for your project.
