My aunt poured hot water on her windshield several years ago. It cracked the windshield. Spray the windshield with the window washer solution. Also gives you a clean window shield and head lights/tail lights.

make a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol and water I generally use 3 parts alcohol to 1 part water. Since alcohol doesn't freeze it is a good thing to use some use a cheap vodka in place of the rubbing alcohol and it works a good. You can also make up the solution and put it in the window washer container of your car and use it that way

Careful, putting hot water on windscreen could crack it, instead use warm hand hot water.

any water over 0 deg C will melt the ice. If it is lukewarm, and you use lots of it, it will warm the screen enough so it doesn't refreeze. It will also stop it freezing inside with your breath long enough for the heater to take over. use wipers before you set off to stop it freezing in the wind

You get one of those remote car starters which turn on the car while you are warmly inside and turns on the heat. Just be sure to set the heat settings before you leave the car.

    Stay warm

The easiest way is just to turn the defrosters on -- that's why they put them in cars. That's the way I do it -- and trust me, there are a lot of days here in New England that I could be out there scraping and scraping. I'm long past those days -- I just turn on the defrosters full blast, and within a few minutes, the frost is gone. No scraping necessary ! and no carrying a bucket of hot water outside. Water is heavy !!
If you have a remote starter, do it that way --just make sure everything is turned on first -- or you can turn the car on, and go back in the house while it warms up.
Even works with inches of snow.
