In the garden, you can use the small type containers on the ends of canes to prevent them accidently sticking into your eyes. Cotton reels and corks are good for this also.

A Genius Way To Hide Your Spare Key
I've been using mine for: paperclips, rubberbands, screws, nails, bobbypins, little items that I dont want to throw out but forgot where they belong (and since found out!), carrying dried papaya chunks for indigestion/upset stomach - in the car, purse, luggage etc, "loose" paint (mark color and/or room on outside), garden seeds, also plant cuttings (to root in water), larger ones for clips, hair barettes, wrapping ponytail elastic bands around (do that with toilet paper/paper towel rolls also), pencil leads; tacks, brads, staples, etc.
My father would fill them with half-dollars and change the label to "take as needed" and give as gifts to his grand daughters
I bag mine up & donate them to my local Animal Humane Society.
Put them in a basket at a garage sale for whatever price you want per ea., per dozen, etc. I guarantee they will sell. I once put empty yarn cones out, a big basket of them, maybe 30-40. A teacher came by and offered me a price for the whole lot, which I took. She was going to use them in her classroom. She said she didn't know for what, but, she would think of something the kids could do with them. Things like bottles, cones, etc are like treasures to others. The pill bottles are used in my sewing room for needles, buttons, snaps, etc.
they are also good for sorting your beads into their own special colors you can lable them so you don't have to take all your beads out all at once or all the time
I use them for my seeds I collect in the fall...make sure you dry them first
I use mine for left over screws. Tape never holds the package closed. Mark on the out side what size or cut off the size and place inside. They can also be recycled. Take to your local recycle center.
Some schools or groups collect them to recycle into benches. A great opportunity to recycle into something nice if you have no other use for them.
