Easy System for Keeping Kids' Clothes in Closet
are you looking for a different place for clothes, or a different use for milk crates?
the milk crates from a dairy are much more sturdy than the ones sold for esp for storage. i have a wire cube set stacked in my bedroom closet. the cubes are a bit bigger than milk crates, and hold more clothes than the crate. they come in panels are held together with special connectors.
if you have the old metal milk crates, there are rounded fasteners to stabilize them on the wall.
my milk crates are supports for a plank shelf system 1 crate at each end of the board. another 2 crates, another board, etc. leave the milk crate mouth facing out.
if you are wanting to display items in the crates, put a thin piece of plywood on the bottom, and make sure what you are displaying is of an appropriate scale.
if you are wanting to ditch the crates for clothes storage.... thrift shops get dressers in occasionally, sanding and painting can do wonders.
you can get spray paint for plastic if you want the milk crates to be all one color.
If you are looking for different options you may find something here. https://www.pinterest.com/explore/hanging-clothes/
for best stability stack them, and wire them together- use something a bit stronger than a twist tie if you have it, or use 2 twist ties together. when you get the configuration to your liking, then attach it to the wall. it will keep it upright if the "load" or weight balance moves too far forward. not all milk crates are the same dimensions- it depends on manufacturer.
don't laugh when you see this. 3m command products. some of the bigger hooks may fit thru the holes in the crate. if not go get picture hanging wire, tie it the 1st hook. thread it on the interior back of the crates. create loops going out the back of the top crates "hanging" each on a hook as you go. or you can get 3 m velco strips- meant for picture frames . these work best if there an area on the crate that is flat and facing the wall.
hope this helps.
