Add a couple drops of an essential oil called Purification, marketed by Young Living Essential Oils to the water.
Most cut flowers should last quite a while if you change the water every few days and use a basic floral preservative which should be available at any nursery or flower shop. Be sure to give the flower stems a fresh cut with sharp shears to help them last.
Fresh cut of stems on an angle. I usually add a penny or a half tsp.of sugar to water .
1. Recut the stems as soon as you bring them home. Use a KNIFE, not scissors, which will "crush" the stems.
2. Remove any foliage that would be under water.
3. Change the water every other day. Add a few drops of bleach into the new water to keep the water fresh, and delay spoilage.
4. Around December, stock up on Christmas Tree preservatives (one brand is called "Prolong"). Use one capful for each container.
5. Keep your flowers out of direct sunlight, and away from drafts.
6. Enjoy!
A "life hacks" to prolong fresh flowers is a small amount of 7-up in the water. Never tried it, though.
Add Vodka to the water. It works every time. Use about 1/4 cup.
Always remove the flowers every 3 day and trim the ends on
a sharp angle. Do this when you bring them home right away
and place in a little warm water as you prepare to arrange them.
Always cut the stems on an angle.Add the packets from Florists or 1 baby aspirin to fresh warm water every day. Also trim the ends of the stems every day.Have had roses last more than a month with this method!
