Old ideas tho!
I too have seen aquariums and terrariums. What you can do with it also depends on the style. Is it a table top model or a floor model? Is it cabinet style or does it have legs? Can you share a picture so that we know what you have to work with?

Bar or wine storage unit
Good I may try that!
I had a Halicrafter TV which was in a cabinet made into a storage piece for my dining room. All the handyman did was remove the "guts" of the TV, make shelves to fit the inside and voila, a place to store my candlesticks and candles right beside my DR table. I had this done more than 40 yrs. ago, and the cabinet has held up because it is made of good wood. I also had a glass top made for the cabinet to avoid nicks and scratches. (Hallicrafter made many of the radio parts used during WW II).

Use tube as a fish tank. You can make a fake diorama-type tank, or a real one.
