How to Decorate With Greeting Cards
Use a cookie cutter to trace a pattern on the decorative portion of the card. Cut out and glue to fine rope . Use as a folliday garland. Turns out great.
donate to a child care center or school for their arts and crafts program
Wow! You can decoupage them to a blank wall and have a memory wall!
Hmmmm I like that idea. I want to save the inside of the greeting card as well, since that holds a lot of sentiment from people who are no longer alive, I'n not so sure that part would look good...
Being in the event industry, we get a lot of "Thank you!" cards from clients, vendors, and even employees!! Here's a nifty idea we used to display our cards: http://zestitup.com/sheet-metal-magnetic-board/
We hope you're feeling inspired! Can't wait to see what you do!!
Thank you everyone for all the ideas! I have gotten some really good feedback and think I might incorporate a little of each into a display wall in my craft room.
I am currently in the process of building a home, so when I am able, I will post pictures of the final project. Thanks again.
Perfect. Exactly what will work for my collection. I didn't want just scrapbooks or albums, and I didn't want to lose any part of the card. This idea adds to the home dƩcor, and allows for display and organized storage of the cards at the same time. Wonderful! Thank you!
I found scrapbooks get too bulky with greeting cards. I have put the greeting cards for each family member on a metal ring. You can get them at Office Depot, Staples, or Walmart. I get a paper puncher and punch a hole in the upper left top corner of all of the cards and put them on a ring. Somewhere on the card I put the date, event (birthday, Easter, Christmas, Halloween, or other holiday); or even the age if it's a birthday card.
I"ve been known to frame special cards, and use them in a wall collage.
I have made super cute little baskets using old cards. Using Christmas cards, I make the baskets and put little gifts inside for the ladies in my Sunday School class. Just google it. They really are fun and pretty!!
You could photo copy some of the special sentiments that you want to see for sure, and then use in frames, shadow boxes, or whatever you decide to do. Display the sentiment beside the card maybe along with a photo of said person!
I save very little. But, if they are precious to you, you should scan them onto your computer and save on external device. I always think about HOME FIRE !! I have scanned hundreds of photos, children's artwork, important papers, etc. I use Carbonite, because I know they will be safe. Can't recommend Carbonite enough. Just $60 a year. Just download it - then everything you put on your computer is saved automatically. so easy
I agree with making baskets. Two beautiful souls that lived near me when first married used to make bowls, ornaments, and an entire Christmas village out of greeting cards. They pierced the edges and embroidered or sewed them together. Hopefully there is some instructions somewhere that shows how they were done.
You can also make labels for Christmas presents or bookmarks or use any blank sides to write on ie make grocery lists, paint or if you do paint, you can paint over the picture. I have kept all my wedding cards for 45 years. For those that I do have pictures from my wedding I put them side by side in an album some pictures are on the inside of the card.
You can give them to a nursing home, for they can make a basket from them, by saving the main pic., and then putting string thru the sides of pic., they will turn out great, and lots of homes collect them. All seasons can, for Easter cards, Mothers day cards, and so forth, as Christmas. Enjoy your self, and keep on saving cards, they are too beautiful to throw away. We save the front of the card, and reuse the card, per yr., for we can't afford a new card, each yr. Just paste the front of the card, to construction paper, and reuse. Be sure to send it to a diff person, than the signature said on the inside tho, ok? Enjoy!!
I have cut cards up to make my own "to/from" tags for presents...cut the outside 1" or so to keep in tact for a framed picture border, if not embossed I cut the back folded side off and reused them as post cards, use it as another greeting / to-from card to slip inside a present, put 4 cards of same size side by side - punch holes down the edges and weave yarn thru to connect them to make a colorful square or rectangle planter cover. keep thinking!
Scan them, sentiments included. Have a fabulous poster and frame it for your new craft room. Many online poster-making sites can do this for you. I worked in our local museum and scanned everything imaginable. I often made collages of items when space was at a premium.
Double glazed pictures, so you can see both sides. Double sided Coasters?
