you can really start any herbs at any time and grow them indoors for a while. Some are really good for pots (basil) but others like to spread (rosemary). Best to read to seed packets for how they are planted.
Yes, you can grow herbs in pots. It's really best to start them indoors, then on sunny days take them out doors to harden them of- bring them back in at the end of the sunny part of the day.
Your local nursery or gardening center will be an excellent source of which herbs to grow indoors. I love strolling through the flowers to get ideas for gardening.
