Neither will hurt your cat, it will keep them occupied if nothing else. I spray the perimeter of my property with vinegar. Oh and I have 6 roaming cats too.
my cats like to "play" with both insects.... very entertaining. I keep my cats inside, the insects come in via the drains.
Cats can happily eat both without harm. Crickets like to live in leaf mould (naturally composting fallen leaves) in flower beds, under trees, etc. Clear away any fallen leaves or organic stuff from flower beds and replace with bark or recycled rubber mulch. The crickets population will fall drastically. As for grashoppers, you might consider an organic based insecticide and keep the cat in for a couple of days and the sun will break down the chemicals into harmless substances. Read labels carefully.
Other than crickets being annoying if one gets inside the house, are they and grasshoppers a threat of some kind? I just treat them as part of nature.
Where there is water, you will find crickets, and other animals. It is a permanent attraction to them. It is all apart of nature.
You could install some bird houses for birds that eat those types of bugs.
