How can I keep from getting catapillars that eat my parsley?

    Spray the plant down with horticultural oil.

    They are probably "parsley caterpillars" which later become a swallowtail butterfly. I just gave up and started planting enough to share. They also like carrots, parsnips, etc. so you might be able to lure them away. No matter what you do, they will come back every year.

    You WANT those caterpillars at the end of summer/early fall. They are the larval form of Swallowtail butterflies... a very beautiful and beneficial insect. Why in the world would you want to kill them?? Everyone I know loves to see them on their parsley at the end of the summer when the garden has played out. Another beautiful stage of the garden is beginning.
