I once read that ants won't crawl over a line of chalk. I tried that in my kitchen and it certainly didn't work, however, I've heard boric acid does the trick. I didn't have any of the latter and couldn't get out but remembered some ant traps in the garage so I brought those in. It worked like a charm.

I have a few answers that might help. One is if you get pest control treatments in your home (in south Florida it's almost required due to the tropical climate), ask the technician for some ant bait and traps.

If you know where they are coming from, lay some raw grits around the opening. The ants will bring it back to the Queen and when she eats it, the grits bloat her and kills her. No Queen no ants!

lastly, and this works well. Diatomaceous Earth, food grade. You can get it at many nurseries, and too eBay. What I love about it is this-it's safe for animals, kids etc. You just sprinkle some near where they are coming in, and too some outside your kitchen along your house. It is effective until it gets wet. A little goes a long ways. Any insect with an exoskeleton that encounters it will die a painful death! Ants, fleas, tics, etc.

Run a line of Borax around your foundation. Or coffee grounds. Stop them outside.
