Are violas edible?

I bought some violas to plant in the yard. I thought violas we're perennial but the package says they're annuals. Also, I have seen recipes using them, but the package says they're not for human consumption. What's the story on violas? Thank you!

  • Edible flower varieties are grown under special conditions and in chemical free environments. If they are marked as non-consumable, you don't have the right variety. There are edible violas, just not the kind you have there.

Well that is a first for me with violas. In all my years of gardening and running a garden center I have never heard of this. Not to be rude but are you sure that is the flower?
