I don't like my formica Cabinets...what can I do?

Lightly sand them ,clean,apply two coats of Zinser or Kilz primer using a foam bush allow to dry in-between,paint allow to dry and seal with a few coats of a non-yellowing polycrylic.

Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123. Then paint with your color. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

Always clean, use no products except warm water & cotton cloths... Our team( of decorators) don't usually give tricks away however formica is an issue for many.. On the market there are NOW good bathroom tile paints..they are strong & work well on many things(though sometimes a glue is added, in your case not required).. Do use a variety of brushes & have a double up as this product is thick, therefore can be harder to apply. Always edge in first though do it in sections(this is because of drying matters),& go ahead & paint, though always across wise/// cupboard doors can be painted in downward motions.. Make sure your first coat is completely dry then do a second( really do wait 24 hours b4 painting the 2nd coat for safety).. •Of coarse have cleaning cloths & correct cleaning products because no matter how neat one is you are likly to get a spot here & there.. Another tip, dont overload the brush with paint, its thick & it manages to smooth itself upon drying... Last thing; 2 coats should be enough, however depending on age & look of the formica, you may want to do a third...& personally this still works out to be one of the cheaper ways to form a new looking area... wishing you only the best,& have some fun.. If you would like to step out of the normal ideas you could try mine. I buy clear caulk that is clean up with water which allows me to make it soupy and I soak cloth in it put it on the fronts and allow it to dry. It is washable, colorful and you can match your curtains to it. I have also used this method to drop a ceiling and put a second color on the walls and then add the lace to lap into the colored wall. It is easy enough to remove when you want to do something else or if you are just renting and have to leave it original when you move. I also used it on my fridge once.

These can be painted with chalk paint. Clean the cabinets and allow them to dry. You can buy different colors of chalk paint or you can make your own. It's a combination of drywall powder and latex paint, Google chalk paint and follow the instructions. Once it's dry you can rub it with paste wax and buff for a nice sheen.
