I second the request for help - I'm in Western NC and we also get them by the hundreds...every night, I vacuum them up - out of the corners of the room at the ceilings, along the door jam, just everywhere. (too stinky to pick them up or squash them!) Anybody??
In Canada we call them Asian beetles and they horrible. Someone thought bring them in to eat garden pests was a good idea but it was nothing short of dumb. They kill ladybugs and bite us. I had a bite from one and it drove me crazy for weeks and when the scar finally fell off there was a tiny stinger in it'. I just kill every one I see manually, but if there's a way to attract them without endangering good bugs, I'm all for it.
If they are consolidated to one are a blue Dawn/rubbing alcohol mix should work. 1 cap of Dawn, 1/4c alcohol to quart of water should do it. Just spray the heck out of them. Make sure they aren't ladybugs, they have only 5 spots, Asian beetles many more.
I tried the Dawn & it worked ok but I stumbled upon Harris Asian Lady Bug & Box bug spray on the internet & they are gone but now babies are hatching so I have to keep the mulch sprayed. If you order this go ahead & get 2 gals you will need it just to continue to keep the population down!
I found this on the internet :Insecticides recommended for treatment of Mexican bean beetle are found in the Florida Insect Management Guide. I also found this website www.plantnatural.com for the Mexican bean beetle control.
Thank you, everyone, I am going to try the Dawn and rubbing alcohol first I try not to use chemicals if at all possible but if that does not kill the darn thing I will go with the insecticides.
As much as a pest as they are...they are there because there is a food source. Aphids. Eliminate them.
Last year we had hundreds of them in the house for weeks on end. We vacuumed them constantly only to find them everywhere the next day. We finally got on a ladder and found a gap around the frame (inside the house) of our windows. We caulked the gap and this year have not had the problem.
They infested an outdoor building in which I use to sew . I finally had to resort to a fogger. I noticed they were still coming through a ceiling fixture so we sprayed and caulked around it. I placed mothballs inside for about a week. Finally, they're gone, but I wonder for how long.
someone I knew had them like crazy, I told them to use moth balls in their closets etc etc all over the house , they all went away .
Try lining some Boric Acid powder in the cracks and joints of windows & anywhere you find them. You don't need to use a lot. Just get the powder in the crevices.
