What plants are your referring to?
As a citrus grower, leaf miners and peel miners are a problem for us. The leaf miner damage is cosmetic, but the peel miner damage will make the fruit unsaleable. There are pesticides available for the miners, which you might have to apply twice, or an old preventive was to spread dusting sulfur on the ground around the trees (in our case). The miners don't like the smell of the sulfur (who does?) and will keep away.
I usually try the Home Depot to Lowes person. They are pretty knowledgeable about plant sicknesses and critters. Bring a couple of fresh leaves to show them and ask for the seasoned gardener person. I found them very helpful.
