Snakes are there for the food. Do you have mice? Do not leave food outside for other animals or birds. Eliminate any water or water features on your property.
Move any log piles/ firewood away from your home or find a place to store a cord/ load of clean or fresh indoors.
Clear ground cover near your foundation. Refresh the gravel around your home. Lime your yard near your house. Also, having a cat is beneficial. Do the same for any and all outbuildings you have.
Never, ever chase opossums out of your yard! They eat snakes (even venomous ones)...they'll keep mice & rats away also.
