Hi, we had our lawn installed with sod. It seems to be failing. Just looks sorry. Missing spots, thin, etc. We have tried everything we can think of in the northcentral states. Any ideas?

How long has the sod been down? What have you tried on the sod?

3 years, we have tried the usual Scotts weed and feed, Spring and Fall.

I'd check with the company who you purchased it from and installed it. Something is not right. Is there a disease or fungi in the sod? Maybe it should be tested. Check with your local nursery for their professional opinion. Best of luck.

Unfortunately, sod usually looks great soon after laying own, but often deteriorates. Hire a professional lawn care company. Sod requires very high nutrient levels. They should be able to keep it in decent shape. What are the sunlight conditions? It may need dethatching as sod comes with a thatch problem but nature. Sorry to say but a seeded lawn is a better choice than sod.

have your soil tested- in several spots. was the house a "newly built" house when you bought it? are you out on the edge of town? occasionally- remnants of older farmsteads had under ground storage of heating oil. a friend of the family could smell an odd smell..near where the oil tank was buried. that patch of grass was dead.

are the neighborhood dogs coming in to visit? are the rodents searching for grubs? this is where i miss the video cam.....
