I'm not sure if this would work for artichokes, but my grandmother always soaked her turnip greens in a solution of baking soda and warm water before cooking to remove any pests.
sprinkle cyan pepper around the leaves, this will burn the ants and keep them away.
Also u can try 7 dust in the powder form, this is safe for veggie plants.
Apply food grade diatomaceous earth.
I second Cayenne pepper!
